I am about to test for my Blue belt which means I'm pretty much halfway to black. However, I look back and try to go over all the techniques and sets and forms that I've learned along the way and I'm having such a hard time recalling it all. How do you remember it all?
I'm baaaack. LOL! I started to put this in the General Kenpo section, but then thunk that perhaps if other stylists read here, it might be fun to get their answers as well. I understand that we, most particularly in Kenpo, tend to teach the basic techniques as we learned them. As most of...
I saw on another thread that Larry Tatum's Pasadena school was suddenly closed and no one seems to know why. Does anyone here know why?
I absolutely love this video, and as an instructor it can be very motivational. If only all martial arts instructors and school teacher were this passionate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxsOVK4syxU I dedicate this post to everyone who motivates, inspires and changes lives.
I'm just curious how many of you have worked with this. I'm specifically looking for concealed carry perspective. I know that Doc and a few others have worked on it from a LEO perspective, which is relevant, but a little different (they are actively pursuing criminals for apprehension, where...
I am currently considering to add fitness requirements to our belt tests - kinda like a pre test before someone can test for a certain belt. I am currently considering to test power using squat jumps and plyo push-ups and endurance using burpees, heavybag or tabata drills. How is this handled...
There is another thread going concerning Physical Requirements... For those of you that do have warm-ups/workouts before class material starts, what exercise do you teach the students or do you do? Do you concentrate on the muscle groups that will be utilized in that night's class? Like...
Did anyone on KT go? Does anyone know where one would find the tournament results? A recent conversation has me curious about it.
For those folks out there who are instructors who either own their own school or have a say in how the school where you train is run... What is the one person you won't teach? Is it the convicted felon who just got out of jail? What about the young punk who slaps his mother in front of you...
I think this topic has potential for some good discussion. I know there have been statements made from either side about which is better. I personally think, as usual, that each has it's place, with advantages and disadvantages, and also that there's more similarity than difference. Anyway,...
Is anyone ready to part with the Blue Belt DVD set by Larry Tatum? I've been scouring ebay and amazon but nothing comes up. Please PM me! Thanks, Richard
I was just wondering how many of us are required to make your own form? If so what is it based on, a traditional form existing of utilizing the different directions and left and right sides? Or scenario based? Thanks!
What are 5 of your favorite sparring combinations?
Please forgive me if I ramble or rant, but there are a few things that I've noticed recently in other folks that I get to train with and, honsetly, I've found some of the same things in myself. That being said, I will be endeavoring to change them in my own practice and teaching. That being...
I've been studying some FMA lately and REALLY enjoy it a LOT! I think it's a Fine compliment to the Kenpo and other arts I train in! In particular I love doing drills like Hubud / Hubad (I've seen more than one spelling, heck....more than two really). Here's a clip of some Kenpo guys who also...
I have a question for long time Kempo/Kenpo practitioners- At its very core, what must be included in training classes to be constituted "real Kenpo"? Of course I am speaking of American Kenpo since I dont take a Japanese kenpo.
I have now taught at two schools (one nisei goju and one kenpo) that require students to test for/earn their white belts. Does anyone else do this? Not being all into the "belts are holy" thing, I have never understood the idea of testing for White belt.
What are your goals for 2010 for your life? and for your martial arts?
Here is an old chesnut from MartialTalk that I started over there. Please keep in mind that this is no longer a current issue with me since this was originally written in 2004. How do the instructors here deal with Moma Bear Syndrome. You know the mothers that think their kid can do no wrong,...
We have had several conversation on here that have borderd on the Mc Dojo Phenoma so I cut and pasted a very old thread I started over on Martial Talk. In my opinion the Mc Dojo is ruining the martial arts for everyone. These belt factories that give black belts for good grades really bring...
