well in regards to what mr. Edward said
"The premise appears to me ... you should be afraid ... be afraid of everyone ... be afraid of the government (I'm still trying to figure out which infringements on the 2nd Amendment the original poster is referencing) ... be afraid.
Now ... because you are scared to death of everything and everyone ... come to our martial arts studio ... where we will teach you to be the biggest, baddest ass on your street. That's right. You'll be the big bully."
I have my own political views on big government, but thats for another day. Although fear was not the motivator in the video (we had to hold back laughter while shooting because of how out of character the acting was for us), nothing wrong to use fear as a motivator. tony Robbins describes it as the pleasure vs. pain principle. We as take positive action in our lives because we are afraid of the consequences. Nothing wrong with that. the consequences of a negative decision in our lives keeps us in line. The fear of what would happen if we didn't do the right thing. The fear of what might happen if I take no action at all. We as instructors are only pointing out the obvious in our society. We do not live in a utopia. We all know what the world is like out there, and as kenpoists we have an obligation to strengthen our minds bodies and spirit through the art, while coming to the aid of those who can't. It all goes back to Mr. Parkers creed. "I come to you with only karate, empty hands......" Nowhere in our school's culture, teachings and even that video does it suggest that we will teach you how to bully, abuse and kick people's ass. It does suggest (in a humorous way) the obvious.....that when ordinary people are put down, abused, enslaved, entrapped, and freedom & rights are stripped from them, that they will revolt. Nothing new here, we've seen it through the ages, and see it today. So without taking things out of context, the video just pokes fun at what is common knowledge.

Mr. Friedman ...
You've invested a great deal of time, energy and money into this promotion.
I'm wondering if you took the next step, and had an independent organization survey a focus group of non-aligned potential clients.
As I understand the principle of promotion, it is to attract those who are currently not aligned with an idea, and entice them to invest time, energy and money in your product or service.
I suggest that while your inside jokes may play well within the self-selected community who already participate in your studio; there is very little to attract the non-aligned to your cause. In fact, I posit the opposite. Those who are non-aligned will be driven away from your product and service based on this presentation.
And, I still think your argument is based on fear; look at the words you chosen "put down, enslaved, entrapped, rights stripped" ... I don't know what world you live in, but where I live, there ain't a hell of a lot of that going on. You are building a premise that is not in context.

I understand where you are coming from, but this video was NOT designed to bring in new students. I have two other videos that I think do a pretty good job of that, and I would invite you to peruse my website at www.ChampionKarateFl.com and let me know your thoughts. I'm no marketing guru so I know I could always do a better job at things and am a student in many areas not just the art. Again, we just made this for fun. I wanted to do something that was fun, edgy and different. So I think from that standpoint it was good. It accomplished what it was supposed to do which was to entertain for 1 minute. ( at least I thought it was funny and thought I would share it with others who also might feel the same way.) You will notice there is no call to action in the video, there is no features, benefits or any of the other stuff. My other videos do that. Thanks again for the feedback though.
With Respect,
Mike Friedman
Oh,please forgive us, your majesty. BTW what world are you from? Planet Oprah? Have an independant organization survey a focus group? What a nerd. (Sorry Mr. Bob,I just couldn't help it)

I have to say that, regardless of my political beliefs, and they may be a bit eccentric... And I may totally disagree with the Mikey. However, my great grandfather, grandfather, father, father-in-law, and finally myself believed in and served Uncle Sam so that we could have the right to disagree.
As was already said, if you hate him badly enough, hit the old ignore button... But let him talk.
I know, it sounds like a political kind of shine on, but when you get down to it... If it don't work here, then where?
Further (just when you thunk you were done with me) We don't all have to agree all the time, or stand around back-slapping like a politicians.
It's ok if you disagree with me, as far as I'm concerned Michael. Not that you would lose sleep over it, but just sayin...

I wonder if you can give some advice on a video project I'm considering. It's about a martial arts school in the future who rebel against government mandated humor guidlines and make videos that only most people find funny. Refusing the Humor Czar's demands (and to eat some really bad tasting corn flakes), they are forced underground to make videos that cause widspread panic in encounter groups and Oprah to regain weight. Ater being attacked by the Independant Survey Enforcement Bureau, they fight their way to a refuge in Canada where they are taken in by an angel. Ends with Jesse Ventura singing, "It's Not Easy Being Mean". What do you think?
